CROWDSOURCING

Crowdsourcing is the process of receiving work or funding, online, from a crowd of people. It is a  combination of the words ‘crowd’ and ‘outsourcing’. The idea is to outscource work to a crowd of people. The most famous example is Wikipedia. Instead of creating an encyclopedia on their own, they gave a crowd the ability to create the information on their own.crowdsourcing-525x350
We believe that a crowdsourcing platform is a great solution for our NGO. Many people could be able to share their ideas, contribute with their knowledge and new concepts and eventually give innovative designs to improve the robot kits. This method would enable our NGO to choose or inspire themselves from lots of ideas that participants on that online platform would have suggested and therefore enhance quality or price of their product.

After choosing to go down the 3d printing route we looked into various design platforms like (Makerbot Thingiverse)
thingiverse-logo this platform allows users to access a database of components and if the components don’t already exist the components can be made and be uploaded to this site. this will also add another dimension to the robot making process. So we propose to our NGO to use this platform in order to get a much cheapr price rather than importing the parts of the robots from other countries. There are always forums on these platforms which means communication is available with other people to get help and crack any ideas.Screenshot (2)

This platform also has a customise section when you can customise existing components to your product specification. There are also simple design softwares like sketch up where you can easily create a simple component.

  1. Hello guys , your NGO sounds very interesting , crowdsourcing is a concept that on the long run makes a project have a lot of content and so far forums are a great example of it . for which exactly will you use crowdsourcing for?

    1. Well the biggest problem our NGO is facing is their low expenditure. They have financial difficulties to spend on the components of the robot for the children to construct. We will be using crowd sourcing by giving our NGO platforms to use. This is one of the platforms we will recommend, (makerbot thingiverse) this platform allows users to access a database of components and if the components don’t already exist the components can be made and be uploaded to this site. this will also add another dimension to the robot making process. And also there is a customize section where you can customize existing components to your product specification. In this case the components of the robots. This will definitely put a cheaper price on the components.
